Is Your Jacket Right For Your Hike?

Is Your Jacket Right For Your Hike?

There’s nothing worse than planning a trip into the outdoors with your buddies, looking forward to it for months and then having it ruined when you finally get to go and why? Because you didn’t have the right stuff with you! You could really beat yourself up for this kind of a thing but rest assured, not brining the right tools and clothes is a rookie mistake that many great outdoorsmen have made before you so there’s some lessons to be learnt here.

Some things can make your trip less fun if you forget to bring them but other things can be an even bigger problem and put your life in danger. Your jacket is one of the things you need to be very careful about. In the wild, animals have fur, feathers or cold blood that helps them adapt to the natural elements. Us humans have gotten a bit soft over the hundreds of thousands of years we’ve lived in civilizations and need to wear our own protective coating against the weather.

You can’t have a single best hiking jacket that will get you through everything the outdoor throws at you; it can be windy in some places, freezing in others and in some places, you get a lot of rain and moisture. You need to plan ahead and dress according to the kind of weather you’ll be facing. If you’re going to be climbing a lot in a cold area, you’ll want a fleece jacket since these can keep you warm while remaining breathable but if you’re going into a rainforest then you’ll want a water proof jacket which isn’t very breathable and can be a bit heavy too but it’ll keep you dry.
